Hi!

Hi Elena! I’m good! How about you? I’m starting school soon since Jenna and Liz think instead of homeschool I should go to real school. Real nervous!

I’m really good thanks. I missed you though, it’s good to see you. Oh really? Well that’s good, right? I know it’s nerve racking but I think real school is probably going to be a lot more fun than being home schooled. I wouldn’t worry, I’m sure you are going to fit in just fine.

Thanks I missed you so much too! I hope so! I’m really nervous, I like learning from my family. But I met the teachers who will teach me with Liz and they seem really nice so I hope it’ll be okay. And I hope the kids are nice. But I know I have you and Jenna and everyone to talk too! It’ll be okay.

And I know I’m not allowed to mention I’m a werewolf while at school! Or the supernatural. I won’t! ;)

Strange Things || Hazel and Jenna

jenna-sommers:

hazel-wolfpuppy:

Hazel knew it would be different now. Before she’d been living with her parents and she’d been so hurt and sad she’d never been able to focus in school and never talked. But there had been a few bullies who had picked on her because she was so quiet. She liked being far away from mean people. If she went to school, she wouldn’t have Jenna and her family around to protect her. She’d be by herself. But don’t I want people to relate to people? Wouldn’t it be nice to meet other kids and make friends, even if they’re not werewolves? I’ve never have friend my own age before…

Jenna was really getting more and more furstrated by the second. She didn’t know how Hazel could be so immature after all that she’s been through. Didn’t abuse (God, she wished it never happened to the child) make one grow up faster? Be more careful automatically? She was 11, for crying out loud! Other kids had their first boyfriends at that time, which Jenna didn’t like either, because, really, what happened to innocence? But she expected that an eleven year old was mature enough to understand that there are bad people in the world, and even more so that Hazel has found that out the hard way. She expected that Hazel could tell the difference between right and wrong, and she sure as hell expected her to listen! Really, how hard was it for a child to follow some simple rules? Jenna didn’t set many, by all means.

“You didn’t know you did anything wrong?” Jenna repeated a little frustrated, but took in her breath to make the following words come out a little more gentle. “We did tell you to stay away from them for a reason, Hazel. What part of ‘stay away from them they’re dangerous’ don’t you understand?”

“Look I’m sorry okay?” Hazel snapped, surprising even herself. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have and I know that okay? I know there are bad people, after what my parents did to me! I just…I talked to Klaus because he was like me, a werewolf, and seemed to understand. I know you don’t feel comfortable with the supernatural but it’s what I am. And I got excited when I found another werewolf like me…” Hazel sighed. “I didn’t think he was that bad, he was nice to me. It was nice having someone who doesn’t flinch at the mention of werewolf.” Hazel knew that was mean but Jenna hurt her feelings whenever she got uncomfortable about the supernatural. It made Hazel feel like there was something wrong with her. But Klaus hadn’t thought there was something wrong with her. He’d made her feel special – like being a werewolf was something to be proud of.

Hazel felt frustrated when Jenna said she didn’t get her logic. “I’m nervous because I don’t want to be bullied like I was before,” she admitted. “School’s full of bad memories, I was all alone back in school. I know it’s different now but I’m still nervous.”

Hazel had known Jenna was upset, but she was taken aback by Jenna’s anger. “I don’t take you protecting me for granted…” She murmured, but she knew she sometimes got careless, at least lately, because she always felt like she would be safe. She flinched at the mention of her father, remembering that horrible time he’d tried to steal her back.

But Jenna’s voice got a little gentler, and Hazel began to feel ashamed. “I’m sorry Jenna,” she whispered. “You can trust me. I was stupid. I’m sorry. I just don’t like thinking about all the bad in the world. I know I need to be careful but I hate thinking about why I need to be. I haven’t forgotten how my parents hurt me…” Hazel sighed. “I guess I just want to forget why I need to be suspicious of people I don’t know. Because then I start thinking about how my parents abused me…”

She sighed. She was feeling guiltier than ever about Klaus. She still sometimes talked to him. He sometimes found her, when she was alone and when no one was close. She liked talking to him though, and he understood her. Hazel knew he was a hybrid and maybe that was why they didn’t trust him. But he’d been nothing but nice to her, and Hazel couldn’t believe he was bad. So she’s kept it a secret because she knew Jenna and even Damon wouldn’t understand the friendship she felt when she was with him. But Hazel felt like she couldn’t really expect Jenna to understand – she was a normal human who was freaked by the supernatural. If Jenna was still uncomfortable she was a werewolf of course she wouldn’t understand their friendship. Hazel loved Jenna, so much but she just didn’t understand how badly she wanted to feel accepted for who she was as a werewolf.

But aside from that, Hazel knew Jenna was right. She normally was more careful and a lot shyer, but she’d wanted to try and be less shy and talk more, and that had gotten her in trouble. She had wanted to forget her past had happened and be like any kid and not be so suspicious of everyone.

“Listen Jenna I’m sorry. Can we stop talking about this? I’ll be more careful okay? I just don’t wanna talk about this anymore.”

Hazel and Rebekah - Surprise Meeting

Hazel was relieved when the woman didn’t seem angry she’d bothered her. She got out of the tub and only when she was sure she’d gotten the towel on did Hazel turn to look at her. “Oh, you don’t know where Damon is…” She was disappointed. She really wanted to talk to him, and it turned out he wasn’t even here. She could wait for him, but now with this woman here, a vampire, she couldn’t relax.

Hazel flinched as if someone had been going to hit her when the woman said, Don’t you have a mother or something? Hazel lowered her head. “No,” she said quietly, “I don’t. Well I do. But she’s not a good mother.” Hazel didn’t want to talk about her mother to a stranger. “I’m Hazel. I live with Liz. Damon’s my friend. I was upset about something and I wanted to talk to him.”

Hazel listened as the woman introduced herself as Damon’s friend. “Okay,” Hazel murmured, surprised by the hand Rebekah offered her. She hesitantly took it, feeling nervous and anxious. She wanted to talk to Damon. She felt tears form in her eyes but quickly rubbed them away with her free hand. She hoped Rebekah wouldn’t ask why she was sad. What would she say? She’d have to explain about her birth parents. She seems nice. I’m sure Damon will be back soon…

Upon hearing the small girl lived with Liz, and more that likely Caroline, Rebekah sighed. It’s not that she was still on horrible terms with Caroline but she didn’t want to be bothered returning the girl home. Arriving at her room she dropped Hazel’s hand and went to her dressed to grab clothes. Not caring whether or not the girl was looking she dropped the towel and began to change. Once in a pair of fleece shorts and a tank top she turned around and eyes the girl warily. What on earth was she going to do with her? “Well what do you want me to do? I could call him but I doubt he would answer and I honestly do not want to go out and trying to find him.” Sitting on the bed she snatched her phone off the nightstand and hit Damon’s number. “Come sit, I promise not to bite.” The phone just kept ringing before it finally went to voicemail. “He didn’t answer.”

Pursing her lips she tried to decide on what to do until he got home. Did she send Hazel back home? Did she let the girl stay until he showed up? Rebekah chose the latter and looked to Hazel. “I suppose you could stay until he got back.” She had to admit, the young child was adorable and Rebekah had always wanted a child of her own, something that could never happen now. “How old are you Hazel?” She asked stretching out across the bed. Might as well get comfortable and play twenty questions. “And I know you have a secret so you might as well tell me now before I ask Damon.”

The girl looked scared and a bit sad and it made her wonder why. Why did she live with Liz anyway? Where was the girl’s parents? She had said her mother wasn’t a good one. She wanted to ask why she wasn’t but for once she felt like being nice and not  prying. “So why do you need Damon if you have the Forbes’ to talk to? We all know Caroline loves to give advice.” Rebekah rolled her eyes.

When Rebekah let go of her hand, Hazel turned away as she got dressed. Maybe they were both girls, but Hazel still felt uncomfortable. Maybe because she knew she was getting closer to puberty. Liz had talked to her about that and they’d looked through a book about what to expect. The whole thing made her uncomfortable because she hadn’t started yet. She felt to self-conscious. So she looked away until Rebekah had dressed. Once she had, Rebekah said she didn’t want to go find Damon but she’d call him. She told Hazel she could sit on the bed and that she wouldn’t bite. Hazel hesitantly sat down; knowing from her scent Rebekah was a vampire and could indeed bite her. But Damon would never bite me. Rebekah’s his friend so she wouldn’t either. And if she did, Damon would be so mad! Hazel knew Damon was protective of her and she liked it. Her family was protective of her and it made her feel special.

Hazel only got her hopes up though – Damon didn’t answer.

Why didn’t he answer? He usually answers really fast!

Disappointed, Hazel lowered her head. But she was both relieved and nervous when Rebekah told her she could stay until he got back. Rebekah didn’t seem like she was going to hurt her, so she should be fine alone with her. When she asked how old she was, Hazel said, “I’m eleven.” Hazel didn’t say anything else until Rebekah said she knew she had a secret. Hazel tensed, not knowing what to say. Does she know I’m a werewolf? Panic coursed through her. Was Rebekah a vampire who liked werewolves or hated them?

But Rebekah was talking again before Hazel could think of anything to say. She asked why she needed Damon and why she wasn’t going to Liz and Caroline instead. It was true Caroline was good to talk too, but maybe because Damon had known her first she felt more comfortable going to him when it came to her parents. Hazel remained completely silent for almost a minute before finally speaking.

“I wanted to talk to Damon about my parents…” She felt tears stinging at the corners of her eyes. “They abused me.” She decided it would be better to just say it then try and hide it. “I ran away almost a year ago and that was when Damon found me. He helped take care of me. And Liz later adopted me.” Hazel couldn’t think of what else to say because the tears were sliding down her face. “I had a nightmare about them and I just wanted to talk about it.”

“It’s okay, don’t apologize!” Hazel said politely. “It’s okay. Nice to meet you Anna.” She smiled. She was beginning to feel a little better. She was glad, because she didn’t want to seem out of it and rude to Anna. Anna might be a vampire, but Hazel was a werewolf and finding someone else who was like her – supernatural – was always exciting.

Anna went to sit on the opposite couch, which made Hazel more comfortable. She loved being close to the people she trusted and knew, but for people she didn’t know she sometimes kept her distance until she got to know them a little. Anna looked so pretty in her dress. Hazel tried to remember if anyone had ever mentioned Anna before. She didn’t think so. But Hazel liked her already.

“It’s only been for awhile, so I guess maybe that’s why they didn’t mention it. But Jenna and Damon and Alaric all look after me too sometimes,” Hazel told Anna when she commented on how they hadn’t mentioned her. She knew that sometimes they kept it quiet because she was a werewolf and they didn’t want to draw attention to her.

Hazel felt reassured when Anna told her there was nothing to worry about and that she wasn’t a threat. Did Anna know she was a werewolf? Hazel didn’t think so. But Anna seemed really nice. Hazel was feeling less worried the more Anna talked. “You’re really nice,” Hazel said, “I know you’re not going to hurt me.” Hazel wondered after she said it if she shouldn’t have worded it like that.

“Oh no, I’m not by myself,” Hazel told her. “I’m with Caroline and Jenna. But I started not feeling well and came to this room cause it was quieter. I didn’t tell them though, so I hope they’re not worried about me.” She frowned, thinking of how Jenna had lectured her about talking to strangers earlier. Anna’s really nice so there’s nothing to worry about! “But I noticed I’m like the only kid here.” She commented. She didn’t see any other kids, just very fancy dressed adults.

“They’re all my adopted family – Jenna, Damon and Caroline and everyone. It’s just…” Hazel hesitated. She didn’t like talking about her birth parents. “My mum and dad…they hurt me a lot. I couldn’t live with them anymore. But I’m been away from them for almost a year. I’m really happy here now.” Hazel purposefully edited out the fact she’d run away from home and that she was a werewolf. She wasn’t sure if she should tell Anna about that yet, even though she knew Anna was a vampire. She looked down nervously, suddenly wishing she hadn’t told Anna about her parents. Even though her adoptive family and her therapist told her it wasn’t her fault sometimes Hazel still felt like the way her parents treated her was her fault.

Listening intently to Hazel’s explanations, Anna gave small nods here and there as she took in the information. Honestly, she wasn’t too surprised no one mentioned Hazel to her. For one, the subject was none of her business. There were no reasons for them to tell her in the first place. And secondly, she hadn’t been the most trustworthy person in the place. She couldn’t blame them if they didn’t want to tell her things like this. So Anna felt no need to be confused or even the slightest bit offended by it. She only hoped it wouldn’t be a problem with her talking to the little girl now.

A small smile tugged at her lips when Hazel informed her she knew Anna wasn’t going to harm her. Most of the people she interacted with around Mystic Falls knew about her being a vampire and at times it made it difficult for them to trust her. But Hazel seemed to actually like her right off the bat and even trust her. Anna found it a little refreshing, honestly. Hazel was someone who she doubted knew what she was or anything about her past, and because of that, there wouldn’t be any judgements of her past actions.

“Well, I’m happy you think so.” Her smile grew a little at the comment. Relaxing a little now, Anna propped her elbow up against the arm of the sofa and brought her hand to rest gently against the side of her face. It felt nice to actually have a decent conversation with this girl. Anna always seemed to have awkward meetings with people she didn’t know. She supposed it was a side effect of living so long. When you lived a few centuries, one got used to knowing people a long time. And when that happened, it became a little harder to get used to anyone new. Especially since she tended to stick to a few close people to begin with.

“You probably should have told them,” Anna told her, frowning a little. But she made sure not to make it seem as if she was scolding Hazel. That wasn’t the case here. She was simply stating a fact. “But if they try and punish you for it later, I’ll stick up for you, ok?” Anna didn’t exactly know how well that would work out, however. Jenna trusted her, Anna was sure. Caroline, on the other hand… Well, she’d never had much interaction with the girl, but she doubted Caroline heard good things about her.

Anna chucked a little when Hazel mentioned herself being the only kid. “Yeah,” Anna nodded. “Not many kids your age come here. It’s usually the adults and the teenagers.”

Anna’s smile fell when Hazel mentioned her old parents. They hurt her? Well, no wonder she seemed rather shy at first. Anna felt terrible for her. No child should have their parents hurt him like that. While Anna didn’t exactly have a father figure the majority of her life, she at least had her mother. A mother that she spent centuries with and would never have dreamed of living without. Of course, things had changed… But Anna didn’t want to think about that right now. She had to move past that already.

“I’m…sorry to hear that. About your parents, I mean,” Anna said sympathetically. It felt a little sad, talking about parents when she didn’t have either of hers left, and it probably showed on her face, though she did her best to hide it. But she quickly covered it up with a comforting smile. “I’m guessing you don’t wanna talk about it. So don’t worry, I won’t ask. It’s…good that you’re happy here, though. You’re definitely in good hands. This town may not always be the safest place, but considering all the people taking care of you, I think you’ll be just fine.”

Trying to change the subject a little, Anna glanced at Hazel’s dress again. It really was cute, and made Hazel look like a little princess. She couldn’t help but notice the girl was wearing a lot of bracelets. Then again, little girls did tend to love accessories, so that wasn’t exactly abnormal. “Your dress is really cute by the way,” Anna commented. “You seem to love bracelets, don’t you?”

Hazel liked how Anna listened, and she found it was getting easier and easier to talk. Hazel liked talking to people, once she got over her shyness. Anna might be a vampire, but maybe it was a werewolf thing, but Hazel sensed she was safe with her. She smiled when Anna said she was happy she thought so. Hazel liked Anna a lot already. She seemed happy and cheerful. Hazel was feeling more comfortable by the second and made herself more comfortable on the couch, leaning into the soft sofa.

“I really probably should have told them,” Hazel admitted, running a hand through her hair. But Anna didn’t sound like she was angry or disappointed, which made Hazel relax. “Really? Thanks Anna! You can stay with me so when they come find me they’ll know I wasn’t alone.” Hazel was glad Anna suggested it because she didn’t want Jenna and everyone to be mad at her for wandering off without telling anyone.  I don’t see why they’d be mad though. What’s wrong with going to a quieter room to rest?

Hazel nodded. “Yeah I noticed,” she said when Anna commented on how not many kids her age came. “There aren’t really any kids at all, just adults and teenagers. But they can be a little boring – they all drink and talk about adult stuff.” Hazel frowned. Then she added quickly when she realized what she’d just said, “But you’re not boring! I’m glad you came to talk. I was getting lonely at the party, to be honest.” Her family was busy talking to other people at the party, and she’d felt a little left out and out of place. But now that Anna was here, she had someone to talk too.

“Thanks,” Hazel said softly when Anna said she was sorry to hear about her parents. “I don’t like to talk about it, but it helps too. Yeah I’m really happy here.” Hazel’s frown turned into a small smile. “Yeah I’m safe here. Everyone looks after me, so even if something does happen everyone protects me. I’m a lot safer here than I ever was at home. I am in good hands, I’m really happy to have my family now.” Hazel felt warm inside just thinking about her family.  “Oh thank you!” Hazel blushed when Anna said her dress was really cute. “Thanks, you really think so? You’re dress is really pretty too!”

Hazel lifted her arm in surprise when Anna commented on her bracelets. “Oh yeah, I love bracelets. I wear these silver ones all the time.” She was also wearing some colorful ones today. She felt a little nervous when Anna mentioned her bracelets. Would she realize that her bracelets were no ordinary bracelets? Hazel didn’t think she should say just yet. Trying to change the subject Hazel said, “What about your family? Did they come with you to visit?” Anna looked like a teenager, so maybe she was here alone or with her family. Hazel hoped it was okay to ask – because of her parents, she was always a little uncomfortable asking about other people’s parents in case they were mean like her mum and dad.

Hazel as a wolf! ^^ I think with Jenna I said she was a white wolf though I always pictured her brown/hazel but wasn’t decided on her colour as a wolf at the time. Well she’s whatever you want her to be!
